🕯 Creating Your Sacred Space
lesson 06 of 07 · reading + reflection
Altars have been used for centuries to perform rituals and connect with Source. Your altar is a physical place that tells your nervous system: 'we are entering sacred time.'
- Any surface works — side table, top of a bookcase, small end table. Start with what you have.
- Pictures: parents, mentors, someone special. A childhood photo for your inner child. A drawing of your higher self. A small mirror for your present self.
- The 5 elements: earth, water, air, fire, space. A live plant covers earth + water; a candle covers fire, air, space. Bamboo, incense, flowers, sound bowls — all count.
- Sound — singing bowl or bell.
- Taste — a small fruit or offering bowl.
- Touch — a cushion, meditation mat, or sacred cloth.
- Smell — scented candles, incense, palo santo.
- Sight — everything you place is already this one.
- Anything sacred to you — childhood memorabilia, gifts, photos. Thrift stores are gold for altar pieces.
- Sacred texts / books you reference often. Vy keeps her Power of Psalms + Reiki + Chakra books on hers.
- Statues, symbols, or yantras for deities you work with (do your research + hold respect).
- Crystals. Amethyst for intuition + psychic work. Labradorite (Vy's favorite) for honing abilities and protection.
- Journal, meditate, pray, do rituals, play sound bowls. Whatever calls you.
- Use it as often or as little as feels aligned — the space needs your breath and intention or it's just decor.
- This is your journey. Follow your intuition. Let it serve YOU.
journal these, voice-memo them, or just sit with them. ♡
- Where in your home right now could you claim a sacred corner? What's currently there?
- Which of the 5 senses do you neglect most in your daily life? How could your altar bring it in?
- Who or what would you place on your altar to honor — living, ancestral, or of yourself?
